Course Description
Seasonal changes can have a significant impact on mood, energy, sleep, motivation, and overall functioning. This 2-hour training provides mental health professionals with a practical overview of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and other seasonal patterns of depression, with attention to assessment, clinical presentation, evidence-based treatment, and supportive lifestyle interventions.
Participants will explore common symptoms and risk factors associated with seasonal depression, considerations for differentiating seasonal depression from other mental health and medical concerns, and established treatment approaches such as psychotherapy and bright light therapy. The course will also examine lifestyle and complementary strategies that may support symptom management, including sleep and circadian rhythm support, outdoor light exposure, physical activity, nutrition, social connection, stress management, and emerging research related to red and near-infrared light therapy.
Emphasis will be placed on helping clinicians integrate these strategies within their scope of practice while maintaining appropriate clinical judgment, referral practices, and individualized treatment planning.
