Course Description
Many clinicians move into supervisory or leadership roles with strong clinical skills, but limited formal preparation for the operational, communication, and team-based responsibilities that leadership requires.
From Clinician to Leader: Practical Skills for Behavioral Health Supervisors is a 2-hour live virtual workshop that introduces practical leadership skills for behavioral health professionals transitioning from direct care into supervisory or operational roles.
This training explores leadership resilience, emotional intelligence, communication strategies, psychological safety, burnout prevention, workflow management, and the unique challenges clinicians face when stepping into leadership.

Meet the Presenter
Susan LaGraves, LCSW-R
Susan LaGraves is a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 25 years of experience in behavioral health. Her career includes direct clinical work with children, adolescents, adults, and families, as well as more than 15 years in senior behavioral health leadership and operations.
Susan previously served as Deputy Director of Program Operations at Buffalo Psychiatric Center, where she led initiatives focused on improving patient access, strengthening rehabilitative services, expanding evidence-based treatment practices, advancing staff development, and supporting sustainable community integration.
Since retiring from Buffalo Psychiatric Center in 2024, Susan has focused on supporting emerging and current behavioral health leaders through leadership education, mentorship, and curriculum development.
