Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course participants will be able to identify:
- 3-4 substance use disorders (SUDs) and their diagnostic criteria according to the DSM-5.
- 3-4 impacts of SUDs on individuals, families, and communities.
- 2-3 neurobiological mechanisms underlying addiction, including the roles of brain chemistry and reward pathways along with different substances and how they impact the brain and contribute to the development of SUDs.
- 2-3 effective assessment tools and review of evidence-based treatment modalities for SUDs.
- 2-3 Â practical strategies for aiding patients in preventing relapse and maintaining recovery. Highlighting the importance of aftercare and support systems, including support groups and community resources.
